John 15:5-6 says, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in Me, you are like the branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned."
This morning I got up and went outside. It was cold! Ice was still on the trees. I noticed that a lot of branches had fallen to the ground, broken and if not dead, sure to die. It reminded me of that familiar passage of Scripture when Jesus was speaking to His disciples. Jesus wanted His disciples to have God's full power in their lives, and He knew that they would need Him in order to experience that. Without Him, their lives would be empty and meaningless...much like a branch that is broken off the tree. Those branches in my yard will be picked up, piled up, and burned up soon...because they are dead! If you want to live life, not merely exist, you have to embrace Jesus as Savior and remain in Him. Your life will bear much fruit when you are in a life-changing relationship with Jesus. Are you a branch that is bearing fruit?
