"Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods." 2 Kings 17:38
Today, Christ followers all over the world will gather together to worship. I believe some worship will be sincere, true worship of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...the Father of our Savior, Jesus Christ. But I also believe some worship will be like that of the people of Samaria in 2 Kings. 2 Kings 17:39-41 goes on to say, "Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is He who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies. They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices. Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did." I hope today we will set the example of true worship for our children and grandchildren. I hope today as we gather at the church house, our worship will be for God and God alone. I hope today we will not try to worship God, yet continue serving the idols we have set up before Him. God will not honor that kind of worship. In Matthew 15:7-9, Jesus tells us, "You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 'These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. They worship Me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'" Let's pray today that God would forgive us where we have failed Him in worship. Let's pray today that He and He alone would be worshiped by His people, the church. Will we worship Him today or will we continue to worship and serve other gods???
