"But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high." Psalm 3:3
David was one of the greatest kings who ever lived. He was called "a man after God's own heart." David's people loved him. His fighting men revered him. But at times, even David was overwhelmed by foes who attacked him on every side. Even his own son, Absalom, came against him. When David was fleeing from Absalom, he cried out to God to deliver him. Psalm 3:-6 says, "But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side." You may have people who love you. You may have people who revere you. But at times, you may be overwhelmed by foes who want to attack you on every side. David gave us a good example of what to do when those foes come. Just as he did, we need to turn to God. He is our shield, our glory. He is our sustainer. Are you being attacked today? Are you relying on your own strength or the strength of your friends and family? David had it all...friends, family, armies. But when he needed deliverance in his life, he always turned to God. Will you turn to God today? Is He your shield around you?
