"This is what the Lord says to Israel: 'Seek Me and live.'" Amos 5:4
The Bible is an incredible book of words. Many times we call it the words of life. What is life? How would you define it? Don't get life and existence confused. They really are two different things, according to the Bible. Jesus spoke many times about life in the New Testament. Some of the most important words He spoke were in John 14:6 when He said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus said He was the life. Earlier in John 10:10, Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." Existence is merely breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide. All existence ends with death - no more oxygen, no more carbon dioxide. But life in Jesus will never end with death. Life in Jesus is eternal life. This truth of life in the Lord wasn't just a New Testament truth. In the Old Testament, God wanted to people to come to Him for life. In Amos 5:4, we read, "This is what the Lord says to Israel: 'Seek Me and live.'" Even in the Old Testament, people were searching for more than just mere existence. They were searching for life. God told them over and over again that true life could only be found in the Lord. I wonder today, are you searching for life? You won't find it in your family. You won't find it in your job? You won't find it in your hobbies? You can only find life in Jesus. He is the life. He is the full life. He is the eternal life. If you want to do more than merely exist, you have to surrender to the Lordship of Christ. But when you do, you will be more alive than you have ever been before. Seek Him and live.
