"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:7
I want you to think of someone or something you fear. Is this someone or something you run FROM or run TO? Many times we associate fear with disaster or terror, so we run away when we fear. God's Word tells us to fear the Lord, and this fear will lead to knowledge and wisdom and instruction. This is the kind of fear that should lead us to run to God not away from Him. God's Word tells us that fools don't fear Him, and they despise wisdom and instruction. Don't be a fool. Don't run from God out of fear. Run to God, and fear Him. Allow Him to fill you with wisdom, knowledge, and instruction. In Proverbs 14:27, we find this: "The fear of The Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death." Not only is the fear of the Lord wisdom, knowledge, and instruction, but it is also a fountain of life. Solomon was one of the wisest men to ever walk on the earth, and he possessed wealth, family, and many other things. But over and over again, the one thing he kept telling his children was to fear the Lord. Solomon understood that it was the fear of the Lord that would lead to wisdom, knowledge, instruction, and life. We need to heed the words of God spoken through Solomon. We need to fear the Lord.
