"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither - whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1:1-3
For almost a year now, I have been exercising morning after morning using the Insanity workout routine. I recognized that my age, my eating habits, and my lack of exercising were taking a toll on my body. I had to do something to strengthen my body. I had to do something so that I could live life fully. I have now gotten to the point where I love doing the Insanity workout. Even this morning, I got up early and worked my body for an hour. One of the most important things to remember during the Insanity workout is that everything must come from the core...
I know that there are many people are using Insanity or other workout routines to get the body in shape and to live a fuller and more healthy life. I know this because these products keep selling day in and day out. Workout facilities and gyms across the country are packed with people taking care of the their bodies. But I wonder how many people are equally worried about their spiritual bodies? I wonder how many people are working out their spiritual bodies? I love this passage in Psalm 1. The one who delights in the law of the Lord "meditates on his law day and night." The one who does this "is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither." The one who does this "prospers." In Colossians, Paul tells us in 3:17, "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." I am thankful for the will and the ability to work out my body and pound it into better shape. But I am MORE thankful to the Word of God! I am thankful for the will and the desire to study His Word. I am thankful, as Paul says in Colossians 3:16, that the "message of Christ" dwells in me richly. As I meditate on God's Word and as it dwells in me, I understand more and more each day what it means to live in Christ and to die of self. My spirit is strengthened more and more through meditation and study.
One day this body of mine will return to the ground. One day my spirit will leave this body to live eternally in a place called heaven...with my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. One day that body of yours will return to the ground. One day your spirit will leave that body to either live eternally in a place called heaven or to either die eternally in a place called hell. The only thing that matters on this side of eternity is what you do with Jesus. Please know this: YOU ARE MORE THAN A BODY! YOU ARE GOD'S CREATION! Return to Him through Jesus' sacrifice. And just as you work out your body for good health, work out your spirit by studying and mediating on His Word.
