"The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy." Proverbs 12:22
Yesterday my youngest son came to me and said something that didn't sound right. He said, "Momma said I could." I looked him in the eyes and said, "Did momma really say that or are you telling a lie?" He dropped his head, and I knew he was lying. I told him I was very disappointed in him. He knows that lying is not right. It was an uncomfortable situation for both of us.
We all seem to struggle from time to time with lying, whether it is a tiny little lie or a great big lie. I wonder if we truly understand the Scriptures and how God views lying? This passage in Proverbs says that "the Lord detests lying lips." However, this passage goes on to say that God "delights in people who are trustworthy." I can definitely see this passage coming to life in my own family. I tried to get this valuable truth across to my son yesterday. I asked him what his mom really said. When he told me the truth, I gave him a hug and a high five! I wanted him to know that I was delighted in the truth. Today, I will have plenty of chances to lie. I will have plenty of chances to disappoint my Father. However, much like Jonah delighted my heart with the truth yesterday, I am going to strive to delight my Father today. I choose truthful lips over lying lips! What will you choose today?
