Not even one…

"There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."   Romans 3:10-12

I was studying this passage of Scripture, and I love what the Holman Christian Standard Bible said about vice, crime, and sin.  "Vice is something done against oneself; crime is something done against society or an individual; but sin is against God."  No wonder we don't talk about sin that much in our society today.  For many people, God has taken a backseat in our lives...maybe even the trunk in our lives...to our families, our jobs, our hobbies, and our own selfish desires.  We try to help people with their vices.  We don't want to see people hurting themselves.  We defend those who are victims of crimes.  We want to lock up and punish those who would commit such crimes.  But when the topic of sin comes up, it is a different story.  None of us want to be labeled as "sinners."  None of us want to be told that we are born "sinners."  None of us want to be told that there is a penalty to be paid because of our sin.  Therefore, none of us want to hear about a Savior who lived and died and rose again to defeat sin and pay the penalty of sin once and for all because none of us want to believe we are sinners!

The truth is this:  there is no one righteous, NOT EVEN ONE!  There is no one who does good, NOT EVEN ONE!  Paul proclaimed this message in Romans 3.  Paul goes on to say in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  I know this is not the kind of news you want to hear.  It's not the kind I want to hear either.  However, it is the truth!  We are all sinners in need of a Savior.  It would be hopeless if I stopped here.  But there is good news!  Paul continues in Romans 3:24-25 by saying, "All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.  God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood - to be received by faith."  The apostle Peter says in Acts 10:43, "All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."  And again Paul tells us in Romans 10:11-13, "As Scripture says, 'Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.'  For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"  It would be a tragedy to live in a world with no hope, no future, and no true love.  It would be a tragedy to live in a "not even one" frame of mind.  But God is true love!  And God has given us a hope and a future!  It begins by admitting our sin.  It continues by believing in the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.  It continues with forgiveness that can only come through Jesus' blood and His name.  And it is sealed by the Holy Spirit of God indwelling our lives and giving us the ability to live life fully!  Many people will continue to live the "not even one" life today, but you don't have to!  You can live the full life in Christ Jesus, knowing that you are forgiven and set free!!!  It is a choice that you get to make...

I would love to hear your comments...
