"Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalm 127:3-5
Today is my youngest son's fifth birthday. Our family got up this morning and sang "Happy Birthday" to him. We watched (and helped) him blow out his candles. We watched (and helped) him open a small present that his sister picked out. And as a husband and father, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with gratitude to God for blessing me! I looked at my wife and my children, and I praised God for blessing me with such a family. Psalm 127 says that "children are a heritage from the Lord." It goes on to say that "blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalm 128:3-4 says, "Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord." I can do a lot of good things in this life...educate myself, work day and night, build up a large bank account...but none of those things are promises that will bring the blessing of the Lord. The Bible says the man who fears the Lord will be blessed...with wisdom, knowledge, understanding, life, and CHILDREN. I will strive each day to wake up in the fear of the Lord and to live in the fear of the Lord. And I am thankful for my children who are a heritage from the Lord!
