"My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding - indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:1-6
If you turn on the television, you will find that our world is teaching us and our children to seek fame and fortune. It seems as though fame and fortune are more important than anything else these days. This train of thought has even made it in to some our churches today. Pastors are even preaching a message that God wants you to have fame and fortune. I do believe God can and will bless His children with many things. But the wisest man to ever live, apart from Jesus, said that there are other things more important that fame and fortune. Solomon told his son to seek wisdom and understanding. He told his son to look for wisdom and understanding as if he were looking for silver or hidden treasure. Solomon also told his son where he could find wisdom and understanding. They are gifts of the Lord. In the book of James, we see that all we have to do is ask God for wisdom, and He will give it generously! Today, I pray that we will be a people who turn our ears to wisdom and apply our hearts to understanding. Then we will understand what it means to fear the Lord. Then we will know how to accept and to use the blessing that God freely gives.
