"Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Matthew 7:1
One thing we like to do today is compare ourselves to each other. We see it in sports all the time. We compare this player to that player. We compare this team to that team. Then we see it in school. We compare this child to that child...this teacher to that teacher...this coach to that coach. It begins as innocent and sometimes playful comparisons. But soon it turns into all-out judgment. We begin to judge others in every area of their lives. JUDGING OTHERS IS WRONG!!! Jesus said this in Matthew 7:1-5, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." I don't know about you, but I don't like the word "hypocrite," especially when Jesus uses it. However, that is who we become when we judge others. We become a bunch of hypocrites! I am convinced that I need to focus more on my own faults and failures rather than focusing on the faults and failures of someone else. I need to repent of my own sins. I need to the power of the Holy Spirit to work in me and change me. Let's be careful when making silly and playful comparisons. We don't want to get into a situation where we become judgmental of anyone. As Jesus has already said, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."
