"Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.' When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there." Matthew 19:13-15
Children are so special to moms and dads. Children are also special to God. I love this passage of Scripture, as we see Jesus' heart and compassion poured out upon the little children. The disciples didn't think Jesus had time for children. Maybe they weren't important enough for them. But they were important to Jesus. He even said, "For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Children are teachable. Children are lovable. Children are free from pride gained from accomplishments and social status. Jesus was loved children. He thought they were important. He also thought it was important to understand that pride and being unteachable were not acceptable at any age. Back in Matthew 18:3-4, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." Yes, children are important to Jesus. And being childlike in nature and attitude are important qualities that you and I need to embrace if we are to please God.
Today, this passage of Scripture is heavy on my heart. As parents, we can control many things in our children's lives. However, there are some things we can't control. When our children are suffering from physical ailments or disease, we are sometimes left with helpless and hopeless feelings. But I want to encourage you today! God loves the little children. And what you can't control, HE DOES CONTROL!!! Today, I am praying for a little child, Teddy Louise. She is God's little child, and He has given her to my friends, Joey and Jaime. Teddy was born prematurely and is battling for her life. I am asking that you join me in praying for Teddy Louise and for Joey and Jaime. Let's pray for God's hand to touch this little baby today and in the days ahead. May His will be done in her life and in the lives of Joey and Jaime. And let's thank God for His love for the little children. Amen.
