"I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life." Ezekiel 37:5
One of my favorite passages of Scripture is found in Ezekiel 37, the Valley of Dry Bones. In this passage of Scripture we see the importance of God's breath. Verse 5 says, "I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life." Ezekiel sees the bones come together; he sees tendons and flesh come together and skin cover the bodies. However, verse 8 says, "There was no breath in them." The bodies were not truly alive until God breathed His breath into them. Verse 10 says, "So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet - a vast army." In Genesis 2:7, we read, "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." Jesus spoke to disciples in John 20:21-22 and said, "'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.' And with that he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"
I believe today many people are merely existing rather than truly living. I believe that many people are settling for a life of dry bones in a valley of death rather than experiencing abundant life that Jesus promised in John 10:10. The valley of death offers no life, no hope. But praise be to God!!! He can breathe life into our dry bones, and He can lift us up out of the valley of death and set us up on the mountain of life!!! Not only can God give us life, but He can also use us (like He used Ezekiel) to bring life to others. Ask God to breathe His breath of life into you today. Ask God to rescue you from the valley of death today. Ask God to use you to bring life to your home today and to your workplace today. He will do it! Believe it! Live it!
