Open Doors for the Gospel

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should."   Colossians 4:2-4

I believe God created us to worship Him with our lives.  Part of that worship is telling others about Him.  Paul says in Romans 12:1, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship."  Jesus tells His followers in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  We were created to worship, and we were created to reflect the love of God in every area of our lives.

Some people are gifted with words and communication skills and love it, while others struggle mightily with it.  But I believe we all have the ability to share Christ with others, whether it is through words or actions.  And I also believe we all need to pray about the opportunities that God gives us to share with others.  We need to pray out of an attitude of thanksgiving...being thankful that God would even choose to use us to share His love with others.  We need to pray out of an attitude of preparedness...being ready to share His love with others.  We need to pray out of attitude of clarity...being communicatively ready to life-changing truth with others.  Paul goes on to say in Colossians 4:5-6, "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."  James tells us in James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."  We don't need excuses, regrets, or apologies.  We need PRAYER.  We need WISDOM.  We need THANKFULNESS.  And God will give us the opportunities.  God will open doors for the gospel.  We need to make the most of them!

I would love to hear your comments...
