Choose your words wisely…

"The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good."   Psalm 36:3

This morning I read two articles about NFL football players who carelessly used their words recently.  The words they used not only hurt themselves, but they also hurt othersThese men will now spend countless hours apologizing to others.  They will spend countless hours trying to restore relationships that have been damaged.  Why?  Because of a few careless words.  Many times we just don't think about the words we are using.  But we have to remember that our words actually have the power of life or death.  Proverbs 18:21 says, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."  But we also have to remember that the overflow of our mouths is actually from what is stored up in our hearts.  Jesus said it in Matthew 12:34, "For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."  If we are using words that are wicked and deceitful, then it is because wickedness and deceit are being stored in our hearts.

We have a problem.  It is called sin.  We need to ask God to forgive us of our sin and embrace Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  When we confess our sin and embrace Jesus, God begins to work on our hearts.  He begins to cleanse us from all unrighteousness...the wickedness and deceit that is in our hearts.  He begins to fill us with His righteousness.  Then and only then can we truly use words that bring life.  Once our hearts are right, then our mouths will be right.  Choose your words wisely today, for they will bring life or death...

I would love to hear your comments...
