"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
1 John 1:5-7 says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
In the book of 1 Corinthians, Paul tells us we are called to fellowship. We are called to fellowship first with God, then with other believers. Our fellowship with God is made possible because of Jesus' sacrifice for us. The love that God has for us is demonstrated through Jesus. This love is overwhelming. This love is forgiving. This love is everlasting. This love is transforming. This love is light. When we have fellowship with God, we embrace His love for us, and we live in His love. We embrace His light, and we live in His light. God has called us out of darkness, the darkness of sin, and into the light, the light of His love. When we are in a right relationship with God, we have the capacity and ability to be in a right relationship with others. When we accept the forgiveness God gives us through the blood of Jesus, we are able to accept forgiveness from others and even give forgiveness to others. That is fellowship...loving and forgiving. All of this happens when we are walking with God, when we are walking in the light. 1 John 2:6 says, "And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love." Walking in love means walking in the light. Walking in the light means walking in obedience. Embrace your fellowship with God today. Embrace your fellowship with you family and friends today. Walk in the light today.
