"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
Many people today don't read the Bible. Many people today don't trust the Bible. Many people today think that life is simply about getting from point A to point B to point C and making the most of their time while they have it. I am not one of those people. I read the Bible. I trust the Bible. I believe life is more than merely existence...more than just getting from point A to point B to point C. I do believe we should make the most out of the time God gives us, though. Some of the people I've talked to say that the Bible is just a bunch of neat stories. They even say things like this: "If the Bible stories about God are true, then why doesn't He still do incredible things like that today?" They say things like this: "The Bible is just a book of dreamers and dreams, too incredible to believe." However, I see the Bible differently. I believe the Bible is God's gift to us through the ages. I believe the Bible reveals God to us so that we can know Him and know Him better. I also believe the Bible helps us know ourselves and know ourselves better. Paul said this in Ephesians 3:14-21, "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Maybe one reason many people don't read the Bible or trust the Bible is because as Christ followers we have lowered our levels of expectation in God. Maybe our expectation in God is selfish...maybe it is for our own glory rather than God's glory.
As I grow in my faith with the Lord each day, I begin to learn a little more about how "wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ." I begin to understand that God has gone through great lengths to save His people...to restore them into a right relationship with Himself. I begin to understand that I trust and believe in a great God, with great love, with great mercy, and with great grace! I love and serve a God who has and who still does and who always will fulfill GREAT EXPECTATIONS! How dare I, as a Christ follower, make any less of my great God! Today I am praying in great expectation of what God can and will do in my life...not for my glory, but for His own. Today I am praying in great expectation of what God can and will do in the church...not for our glory, but for His own. Today, God, I come to You with great expectations! Amen.
