Equipping and maturing…

"So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."   Ephesians 4:11-13

Last week, I attended a worship conference in Orlando, Florida.  I needed this conference badly.  I went with an open heart and an open mind, ready and eager to learn and to worship...ready to be equipped for the work that God called me to do.  I heard testimony from many different pastors and worship pastors.  I went from session to session storing up God's Word in my mind and my heart.  It was a great week!  Not only was I equipped to do the work, but I was also able to worship God there and serve Him there with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

I recognize my role in Start Baptist Church as her pastor.  God has called me to equip His people for works of service.  He has called me to preach the gospel of Christ "so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature."  As a church member, I think it is important to recognize the role that God has for you, as well.  If you don't come to church ready and eager to hear from God through the pastors and the teachers, then why come at all?  If  you don't come to church ready and eager to serve God and serve others, then why come at all?  If you don't come to church wanting to be unified in faith and in maturity, then why come at all?  As a pastor, I am humbled and honored that God has called me to do what I do.  I take seriously the studying of His Word and the teaching of it.  I take my prayer life seriously because I know that God is using me to make a difference in the lives of His children.  As church members, you, too, should take seriously the role that God has placed on your life.  Come to church ready and eager to hear from God, prepared to serve Him in any way.  Take the equipping process in your life seriously.  Take your prayer life seriously.  Take unity in the faith with your brothers and sisters in Christ seriously.  God is using you to make a difference in the lives of others, as well.  You are a reflector of His light and of His truth to a dying and lost world.  May He be lifted higher and higher and glorified through His church, and may His church make Him known in the community!  Amen!

I would love to hear your comments...
