"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolators nor adulterers nor men who have sex with me nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Many people believe in God. Many people believe in God's love and forgiveness. However, many people believe that they can earn God's love and earn God's forgiveness. The Bible does not say or teach that. No one can earn God's love, and no one deserves His love either. No one can earn His forgiveness, and no one deserves His forgiveness either. God is loving and forgiving on His own. He chose to love us unconditionally with His everlasting love. He chose to forgive us and to cleanse us through the blood of His perfect Son, Jesus.
Paul reminded the Corinthians that sin is sin in God's eyes. The list of sinners mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6 is broad. Paul called out the Corinthians in their lifestyle of sin in verses 9 and 10. But Paul followed up with these powerful words in verse 11: "But you were WASHED, you were SANCTIFIED, you were JUSTIFIED in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." GOD FORGIVES SINNERS! No one is out of God's reach! Paul knew this very well. In his letter to Timothy, Paul understood that he was a sinner. He understood God's forgiveness through Christ. 1 Timothy 1:13-16 says, "Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life."
If you are living in a lifestyle of sin and you want to experience God's forgiveness, all you have to do is confess your sin to Him. 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Trust in Jesus and only Jesus and His perfect life, death, and resurrection that brings God's forgiveness. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." You don't earn it. You certainly don't deserve it! You just accept it:) GOD FORGIVES SINNERS!!!
