"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." Philippians 2:1-2
Paul understood the importance of the Church in the world. He understood the power of teamwork. Paul encouraged many, if not all, of the churches in his day to be one. He encouraged them to work together for the sake of the gospel. How does the Church work together? How important is teamwork in the Church? Paul said that the Church is united with Christ. Jesus has the power to bring people together and keep them together for the glory of God. His love is more powerful than anything we can or ever will face as a body of believers. The Holy Spirit of God lives inside of us, and the Holy Spirit gives us the power to be part of this team called the "Church." Paul went on to say that we must be "like-minded," and he said that we must have "the same love." He goes on in Philippians 2:5 to say, "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus." Paul had already told the Church in Rome this same thing. In Romans 15:5-6, Paul said, "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." That is teamwork!!! When we deny ourselves and lay down our own agendas and goals and our own egos and selfishness, when we put on the same mindset of Jesus in the way we treat each other, we become one…one in Spirit, one in mind, and one in voice! And God is glorified when His Church moves forward as one! My prayer is that you and I embrace these commands as Christ followers. My prayer is that we will totally surrender to God within the Church. May God be glorified in His Church today!!! May God's Church move forward powerfully in this world as one…through His power and His strength…with godly teamwork!!!
