Deborah, a woman of faith…

"Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time."   Judges 4:4

Once again, we find the Israelites in a familiar place: a place of evil in the sight of God.  The Israelites had experienced God's blessings and His peace for over 80 years under the leadership of Ehud.  But when he died, Judges 4:1 says, "Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord."  As a matter of fact, they fell into the hands of the Canaanites because of their evil ways.  However, God heard the cries of the Israelites, and He raised up a woman.  Deborah was a woman of faith!  God spoke to Deborah, and she appointed Barak to go and fight Sisera and the Canaanites.  She told Barak that God would be ahead of him and that God would deliver Sisera into his hands.  Barak gives his response in Judges 4:8, "If you go with me, I will go; but if you don't go with me, I won't go."  Barak's faith seemed weak in this moment, but Deborah believed God.  Her faith was strong.  She replied in Judges 4:9, "Certainly I will go with you.  But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman."  God spoke to Deborah, and God was with Deborah.  And the Canaanite commander, Sisera, was killed by a woman.  Jael, whose husband was an ally of the Canaanite King Jabin, took a tent peg and drove it through the temple of Sisera.  Barak came to the tent, and Jael, a woman, showed him the dead body of Sisera.  God gave the Israelites victory through the hands and the faith of a woman.  Judges 4:24 goes on to say, "And the hand of the Israelites pressed harder and harder against Jabin, king of Canaan, until they destroyed him."

I thank God for women of faith.  I thank God for women He has put in my life, women like my mom, my Aunt Nancy, and my wife.  These woman have taught me so much and have lived out a genuine faith for me.  If you are a woman reading this blog today, please understand that God created you for a purpose.  When you surrender your heart and your life to Him, He will bless you and give you all that you need to be a woman of impact!  Don't rely on your beauty, your education, or your position in life to be a person of impact.  Rely on God!  Trust in Him!  Be a woman of faith, and God will lift you up and bless you in ways that will bring Him more glory and honor than you could ever imagine!
