"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."   Genesis 2:7

We were made for relationship.  We were made for relationship!  God says in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness."  Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."  When I look around at all that God has made I see His divine creativity.  God's creations are amazing!  But we, mankind, are the ones made in His image.  Genesis 2:7 says that God "breathed...the breath of life" into our nostrils.  We are not beings who simply exist; we are being who live!  We live in relationship with God because of His love and His life that He breathed into us.  To deny relationship with God is to deny life and love.

God not only made us for relationship with Himself, but He also made us for relationship with each other.  God says in Genesis 2:18, "It is not good for the man to be alone.  I will make a helper suitable for him."  Verse 22 goes on to say, "Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man."  God created the man and the woman to be in relationship with one another, and this relationship came after the one with Him.  This relationship came through a relationship with Him.  As time passed, children were born as a gift from God.  Families began to fill the earth.  Throughout the Bible we see God filling men and women with His Spirit.  We see God speaking to men and to women, using them to reveal His life and His love for mankind.  But sin destroyed our relationship with God.  And it destroyed our relationship with one another.  Men and women were, and still are, broken before God...broken before each other.  Families were broken.  Friendships were broken.  Relationships destroyed.  But, John 3:16 says, "For God SO LOVED the world that he GAVE his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  God wanted and still wants relationship with His creation, mankind.  He SO LOVED, and He GAVE for relationship with us!  Jesus makes it possible for you and I to have REALationship with God!  REAL life and REAL love with God are possible because of the life, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus!  REALationship with God means REALationship with one another. This is more than mere existence; it is life...abundant in and through Christ!

As Christ followers, we should be all about REALationships!  We should live this real life of love with our spouses, with our children, and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We should embrace one another and encourage one another through REALationships.  Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching."  As the Church, we should also be out there in our communities building REALationships with people, bringing them to the knowledge of our loving and merciful Creator.  As the Church, Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:17-20, "All authority in heaven an on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  We do that through loving and mercy-filled REALationships.  Everything we do as Christ followers and as churches should be about relationships, or as you have seen me write today - REALationships.  Let's go out and take the REALationship we have with God, the breath of life we have from God to anyone and everyone He places in our path.  Let's be about REALationships!!!

I would love to hear your comments...
