Redirected passion…

"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."   Galatians 5:24-25

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?"   Psalm 42:1-2

We are so passionate about many things today.  We are passionate about our families, our jobs, our hobbies, and our material possessions.  Passion is not a bad thing.  God created us as spiritual, physical, and emotional beings.  However, when our passions are misdirected toward earthy things, it spells disaster for us.  Our passion for these earthly things can easily turn our families, our jobs, our hobbies, and our material possessions into idols that we begin to worship.  When we become children of God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we change from the inside out.  We learn to live true life with a redirected passion!  Our flesh is crucified and our old, earthly passions and desires with it.  The Holy Spirit leads us into an intimate and personal relationship with God.  When we begin to understand just how great God's love is for us, we can't help but be passionate about Him.  We long for relationship with Him.  We long for worship.  We long for the Word.  Just as the Psalmist says in Psalm 42:1-2, "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?"  I believe when our passion for God is right He will give us a godly passion for our families and our jobs and the other blessings in life.  That is why Paul was able to say in Colossians 3:17, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."  Don't just be passionate.  Be passionate for God, and live the true life He created you to live!!!
