"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2:6-7
The month of October is known as "Pastor Appreciation Month," and my church family showered me and my family with cards, texts, email, etc. I was overwhelmed with love and encouragement from my church family, and I am still trying to take it all in. Throughout God's Word we are told to be thankful for everything...to be thankful in all circumstances. In Colossians 2:6-7, Paul says, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." What I see in my church family is a group of people living their lives in Jesus. They have embraced the role of servants in our church and in our community. Jesus said in Mark 10:45, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." To live IN Jesus is to live AS Jesus. John said it like this in 1 John 2:6, "Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did." Jesus came to serve. Christ followers must embrace and live the lives of humble servants. Church family, you have served my family graciously this month, and I thank you. Not only that, I have seen you serve throughout the year. You have served your fellow church members, you have served your community, and you have served on the foreign mission fields. Thank you for living in Jesus. Thank you for living lives of humble servants. I am honored to serve along side of you, and I look forward to the opportunities of service God will give us in the days ahead. Today I am overflowing with thankfulness!!!
