"They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God." Nehemiah 4:8-9a
Anytime you are serving God, you will face opposition. Satan doesn't like anything Christ followers are doing in the world today. He will do anything he can to stop, or at least slow down, the advancement of God's kingdom. Many times he will use people to stir up trouble, to ridicule and mock, and even to fight. Nehemiah faced opposition. God gave Nehemiah an awesome plan to advance His kingdom in Jerusalem. He was going to rebuild the walls, rebuild the relationships with the people, and rebuild their faith in God. Satan didn't like that. Satan wanted to put a stop to it. Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem did everything they could to stop Nehemiah's progress. They hurled insults at him. They mocked the people of Jerusalem. They even tried to use Nehemiah's own people against him. However, Nehemiah was a praying man. Nehemiah was persistent in his prayers for God's kingdom. When these enemies began to gather and stir up trouble, Nehemiah 4:9 says, "But we prayed to our God." Earlier in the book of Nehemiah, he stated that it was God who was in control and that God would be with the people. Nehemiah 2:20 says, "The God of heaven will us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it." Nehemiah didn't take a stand in his own strength; he took a stand in the strength of God! No enemy, not even Satan, can stand against the Almighty God! If you are living your life to bring honor and glory to God, you will face opposition. Satan will do whatever he can to stop you or slow you down. He will use people and circumstances to try to get you to quit. Be a person of persistent prayer! Be a person who will take a stand in the strength of God! He will give you success!
