Live Life to the Full

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full."   John 10:10

This morning I was pouring a cup of sweet tea, which is my one of my morning routines.  However, I got distracted, and I poured a little too much sweet tea into my cup.  As a matter of fact, I poured enough sweet tea into to the cup that it was right at the brim.  It was a full cup of sweet tea.  As I stared at the cup of sweet tea, I couldn't help but think of the full life that Jesus said He came to give us.  How many of us are truly living the full lives that Jesus came to give us?  What is full life?  Is it having the best job?  Is it having good health?  Is it being well-known and well-respected in the community?  Many of us think that full life is about all the stuff we have or the stuff that we are trying to get.  Many of us think that full life is about a spouse or about the children.  But when you read through the Scriptures, it is very clear: Full life is having Jesus.  Jesus said, in John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?"  Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."  In 1 John 5:20, John said, "We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true - even in his Son Jesus Christ.  He is the true God and eternal life."  Full life is having Jesus because Jesus is life.  Jesus is full life, eternal life.  No one and nothing else is life.  We chase after what we think is life each and every day.  We chase after food.  We chase after clothes.  We chase after friends.  We chase after money.  Food, clothes, friends, and money will not bring you full life, true life, eternal life.  That is why Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well."  What things?  Jesus was talking about the things we worry about.  In verses 25 through 32, He talks about the things we eat and drink.  He talks about the things we wear.  He talks about the things on which we place extremely high value...the things that we think bring us life.  But Jesus makes it very clear: He is the way and the truth and the life.  If we have everything else and we don't have Jesus, then we don't have anything.  If we have Jesus, then we have everything...we have full life.  Jesus said in Matthew 6:26, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?"  Think about that statement and question today as you live your life.  God loves you!  You are valuable to God!  You are so valuable to God that He sent His only Son to live and die for you!  God loves you so much that He wants you to live life to the full!  Just like my morning cup of sweet tea filled to the brim, God wants you to live life filled to the brim!  Believe it!  Claim it!  Live it...full life!
