He Is Our Peace

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you."   John 14:27

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus."   1 Timothy 2:5

When I was in middle school and high school, I had my share of conflicts.  Most of the time the conflicts were my fault.  I had conflicts with fellow students, conflicts with teachers (well, really the homework and tests they gave), and conflicts within myself.  There were also conflicts going on within the world that I lived.  One big conflict was labeled the "Cold War."  I remember thinking about nuclear war a lot, especially between the USSR and the USA.  I remember the Gulf War, and I remember thinking a lot about chemical warfare.  As bad as any of these conflicts were or still could be, the greatest conflict that you and I have faced, are facing, or will face is the conflict we have with God.

Romans 3:23 tells us that we are all sinners.  Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death.  Psalm 5 and Proverbs 16 tells us that God hates sin.  Isaiah 59 tells us that God cannot allow sin in His presence.  AS SINNERS, YOU AND I ARE IN CONFLICT WITH GOD!  But...  1 John 4 tells us that God is love.  John 3:16 tells us that God loves us so much.  Romans 5:6-8 tells us that God demonstrates His own love for us by allowing His Son, Jesus, to die for us even while we were sinners.  God moved powerfully for us in the midst of the conflict that we created.  Adam and Eve chose to disobey God in the Garden of Eden.  Sin was born, and sin was passed on to every human being in the history of creation.  In our hopelessness, God moved!  In our sin, God had a plan.  In our death, God gave life.  1 Timothy 2:5 says, "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus."  The opposite of conflict is peace.  The only way you and I can stand before God in peace is through the perfect Mediator, the perfect Lamb, the perfect Sacrifice, the man Christ Jesus!  Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."  Jesus tells his followers in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you."

Eventually, there was peace between the USSR and the USA.  The "Cold War" ended and there was peace.  Eventually, I came to my senses and stopped arguing and fighting with people in my life, like my fellow students and my teachers and my parents and my brothers and there was peace.  And praise be to God, eventually, I confessed my sins before God and trusted in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  The conflict between me and God was over because of the Mediator, the man Christ Jesus.  God gave me peace and that peace was and is Jesus!  I now know that I never had peace with anyone or with myself because I didn't have peace with God.  I was filled with conflict and fear rather than peace and love.  If you are filled with conflict and fear today, I urge you to pray to God.  You will never be right with man or with self until you are right with God.  Maybe today you need salvation?  Maybe today you need the Mediator, the Savior, Christ Jesus?  Maybe today you need repentance?  God loves you!  God wants you!  Turn to Him today and let the perfect peace of Jesus overwhelm you.  Believe it!  Claim it!  Live it!

I would love to hear your comments...
