There will be no more…

Revelation 21.4

"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'"   Revelation 21:3-4

One of the most difficult parts of my calling as a pastor is performing funerals.  It is difficult because of the grieving that takes place.  At some point we all come to understand that we are mortal.  We come to understand that our bodies will eventually shut down.  Our hearts, at some point, will beat one last time, and our flesh will fail.  As a pastor, I want to be there for families who suffer loss of loved ones.  As Christ followers, we do grieve, but we grieve with hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul says it this way in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 when he was speaking about the coming of the Lord: "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."  We grieve with hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and the victory He achieved over sin and over death through His powerful resurrection!  As Christ followers, we believe the words that John heard and then wrote in Revelation 21:3-4.  He wrote, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'"  Wow!  That is the hope that we have as Christ followers.  We have the hope of Jesus!  We know that one day God will change everything one final time.  He will do away with all the sin and all the brokenness.  He will wipe out death and mourning and crying and pain.  He will be our God, and we will be His people.  Christ followers, if you are grieving today, grieve with hope in the Lord.  Know that God loves you and has prepared a place for you where you will spend eternity.  You will spend eternity in a place where there will be no more...death...mourning...crying...pain.  You will spend eternity living with the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.  Praise God today for His grace and His mercy and His overwhelming love for us!  Amen!
