Our 2015 Mission Trip to Nicaragua…

Church in Coyolito"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.  Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."   John 13:14-17

Back in January of this year, our church sent a team to Nicaragua to serve on a medical mission trip with XMA.  God blessed us and allowed us to take much needed medicines to a remote part of Nicaragua.  We were also able to take clothes, shoes, toys, and most importantly, the Word of God with us!  We went there to serve the people that God would bring before us.  He led us to the remote, mountain village of Coyolito.  When we arrived, we could see many of the physical needs that God would allow us to meet with the supplies that we brought.  What we could not see were the hearts of the people we would be serving.  We were there to bless these people in any way possible and to give them the powerful Word of God and the love of Jesus.  However, we quickly found out that we were not the only ones in Coyolito that would be serving during this trip.  These people served us, as well.  They blessed us with overwhelming hospitality and love.  They brought us coffee and food.  They brought us tables and cloths to use.  And they smiled...a lot!  It was an awesome experience!  Each day we woke up knowing what we would be doing for the people, but we could not possibly know what these people would be doing for us.  As we prepared to leave, they gathered around us and sang over us!  They prayed over us!  It reminded of the passage in John 13.  Jesus told His followers to wash one another's feet.  He told them to serve one another.  And He said that if they did those things that they would be blessed.  We experienced this blessing first hand in Coyolito!  I thank God for giving me and my church family the opportunity to serve Him and others, and I thank God for showing us personally that there are others who obediently serving Him and others, as well.
