"Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to tread on the heights." Habakkuk 3:17-19
Habakkuk was a minor prophet in the Old Testament. He predicted that Judah would be invaded and ransacked by foreigners, specifically the Chaldeans. Habakkuk had a hard time understanding God's ways and God's justice. However, the most important decision Habakkuk ever made was trusting in the almighty and sovereign God...no matter what! He praised the greatness of God and the holiness of God. He understood that God called His people to live by faith in Him no matter the circumstances. And Habakkuk voiced his "no matter what" faith in his final words in chapter 3: "I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength." Even amongst all the chaos that was going on in his land, Habakkuk found joy. HIs joy was not found in anyone or anything other than his God!
There is a lot of chaos going on in our world today, even our own country, our own backyard. There are things that are out of our control. There are things that we don't understand, things we can't comprehend. However, as Christ followers, we know that God is in control! We know that God has a perfect plan! We don't have to understand it, but we certainly need to know it and trust Him! As Christ followers, we need to have the "no matter what" faith that Habakkuk had. We need to be able to say, "I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength." We need to be able to say that...no matter what!
