"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they are unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." Acts 4:13
In Exodus 34, we found out that Moses was not only GROWING in his faith with the Lord, but he was also GLOWING in his faith because of the Lord. Moses spent time in the presence of God, and it made a difference in his life - inside and outside. In the New Testament, Jesus called disciple to follow Him and to serve along side of Him. However, He wanted intimate and personal relationship first. Before any works or deeds or service of His followers, He wanted to be with them. Mark 3:13-15 says, "Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might BE WITH HIM and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons." Think about that for just a moment: Jesus called them. Jesus wanted them. He wanted to BE WITH THEM, and then He would empower them to go out and preach and drive out demons. The order is obvious. Throughout the gospels we find Jesus taking every moment available to spend intimate and personal time with His disciples. This time was so important for the disciples. They, like Moses, were not only GROWING in their faith with Jesus, but they were also GLOWING because of intimate and personal time spent with Jesus. That is why we see Peter and John making a profound impact upon the world in Acts 4. Everyone noticed the difference in them, and the difference was Jesus. Yes, they noticed their courage. Yes, they noticed that they were unschooled and ordinary. But they were astonished! And then they realized the difference: "They took note that these men had been with Jesus." Paul tells us in Romans 10:17, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:2, "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation." We, too, can GROW and GLOW in our faith in Jesus when we spend intimate and personal time with Him. If you want to GROW and GLOW in your faith, then believe and claim Mark 3:13-15. Just spend time BEING with Jesus. If you spend time BEING with Jesus, then He will empower you to go and to do great things for the kingdom of God. And then, and only then, will you be like Peter and John in Acts 4:13, GLOWING for Jesus because of Jesus. We are called to shine the light in a dark world. The light is Jesus. Matthew 5:16 says, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Believer the Word today! Claim the Word today!
