"Then Jesus said to his disciples: 'Therefore I tell you, DO NOT WORRY about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.'" Luke 12:22-23
What are some things that you worry about? Do you find yourself worrying about these things constantly? Many times the things we worry about are the things of this world that have no eternal value. And many times the other things we worry about are the things that we have no control over. We worry ourselves to death...literally. Jesus says in Luke 12:22, "DO NOT WORRY." He brought up two things that maybe the disciples had on their minds: food and clothes. Jesus went on to say in Luke 12:24-31, "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you - you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." Maybe today you are not worrying about what you will eat or what you will wear. Maybe today you are worried about others things. Remember, Jesus said, "Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?" Our worrying can't even change the little things, so why waste time worrying about the bigger things? Wow! I needed to hear this message from Jesus today. I needed to hear Him say, "DO NOT WORRY (verse 22)." I needed to hear Him say, "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT (verse 29)." Today, I am going to set my heart on more important things: loving God and loving people. Today, I am going to set my heart on seeking what is truly important: His kingdom. When we are focused on God's kingdom and God's great love for us, it is really difficult to be worried about things that we can't control. When we are focused on God's kingdom and God's great love for us, it is actually easier to walk in comfort, peace, and joy because we can see and know that God is in control. Believe it today! Claim it today! Live it today!
