"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us." 1 John 1:8-10
We can use so many words to describe God: loving, compassionate, awesome, holy, righteous, and omnipotent are just a few. Two words that I thought about this morning are FAITHFUL and JUST. I was sharing the gospel with someone recently, and we talked about sin. Sin is what separates us from God. The wages of sin is death, and the Bible tells us that all have sinned. Other than Jesus, there is not one person who has ever lived or is living or ever will live that is righteous...not one! The wages of sin is death...physical death and spiritual death. However, John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." God stepped into the mess that we created; He stepped into our separation and bridged the divide that our sin caused. God gave us Jesus. Jesus lived, died, and rose again to defeat our sin and to defeat death. Our God is FAITHFUL and JUST. How can we be forgiven of our sins? How can we be purified from our sins? We must repent, and we must embrace Jesus as our Lord and Savior. God's Word tells us in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is FAITHFUL and JUST and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Isaiah 1:18 says, "Come now, let us settle the matter," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." Yes, our God is FAITHFUL and JUST, and He forgives us and purifies us from our sins when we confess to Him. I thank God for His love, compassion, holiness, righteousness, and omnipotence! I also thank God for His faithfulness and His justice! He forgives me! He purifies me! I can walk in newness of life because my God is FAITHFUL and JUST! Believe that today! Claim that today! Live in that today! Amen!
