" A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25
This morning I turned on the television while I worked out. I usually have it on ESPN, but this morning I flipped to another channel that was showing Rocky Balboa. Yes, I am a fan of the Rocky movies. While I was doing my workout, Rocky was walking in the street with Little Marie, and she asked him, "Why are you being so nice to us? You don't owe us anything." Rocky replied, "Why you gotta owe something to give something?" At that moment I stopped what I was doing and immediately began to think about that question from Little Marie and that answer from Rocky. I went to the Bible and found this Scripture from Proverbs 11:25 that says, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." And then, I went to 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, where Paul says, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
As Christ followers, generosity is something that we should practice each and every day. God has been and is so generous to us. He pours out His grace and His mercy and His love on us over and over again. He certainly doesn't owe it to us; we haven't earned it or deserved it. As Christ followers, we should be vessels of God's grace and mercy and love. We should be vessels of God's generosity. We should treat others this way each and every day. God will bless us so that we can be blessings to others. He will give us everything we need so that we can and will abound in every good work. Believe it! Claim it! Live it!
