"I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live." Psalm 116:1-2
As a kid, I remember my Aunt Nancy telling me one time, "God is my Helper. He helps me because I can't help myself. If I could help myself, then I wouldn't need God's grace and mercy." Aunt Nancy's words are so true for me today! Jesus tells us in John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." I have found over and over again that I need God. I need His grace. I need His mercy. I can't do anything without Him in my life. I have also found that no matter what, no matter when, God hears my voice when I cry out to Him. The psalmist tells us in 116:1-2, "I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live." That statement blows me away! The God of all creation actually hears me when I call out to Him. No wonder the psalmist says, "I love the Lord." The psalmist in 116 needed to be rescued. He cries out in verses 3-6, "The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: 'Lord, save me!' The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me." I don't know where you are today. I don't know what kind of circumstances surround you, but as a Christ follower, you can call out to God in your time of distress or sorrow, and He will hear you! Don't allow the distress and sorrow to overcome you; call out to God, and allow Him to overcome you with His compassionate presence. Believe it today! Claim it today! Live it out loud today!
